I've done some more digging into this issue and the answer is the following: The DB2OleDB provider from the feature pack does not support transactions, but the HIS (Host Integration Services) does. Also you have to use DISTRIBUTED TRANSACTIONS and set XACT_ABORT ON before the call to BEGIN DISTRIBUTED TRANS.

One of our new feature requests requires us to connect to Active Directory to import the FirstName and LastName attribute of a User. Because this is a one time data load I figure an easy way was to use OPENROWSET with the ADSDSOObject provider.

Apr 23, 2011 · As a result of this, unfortunately Analysis Services doesn’t support Distributed Transactions by design. The workaround to the issue is to insert data into table and query that table instead of using Exec command in your stored procedure.
