Sort of? A few parts can utilize more than one core but the game is still mostly running on a single core so it really doesn't make much difference. A stronger core clock speed will serve you much better than more cores. The only truly multi threaded part is the startup which will use 100% of your CPU.

The game DOES have issues with multiple GPUs, though, so if you are running SLI or Crossfire, or if you have a card that has two GPUs on it, you might have some problems.

Console games. For PC: The i5 is the sweet spot game engine devs target. So 4 cores is the max for the next while. Targeting i7 for more than 4 cores is just shooting yourself in the foot before you even release the game as most people will have an i3 with HT or an i5.

Jul 28, 2012 · Minecraft is a very CPU intensive game but currently Minecraft will only use a single core of your processor, whether you have a 6-Core I7 Extreme or a single core AMD sempron. This is a complete waste of resources and support should be implemented to balance the load on computers (Especially Laptops).
