Jun 08, 2009 · Sorry guys, but Xp-2k3 count cores, not sockets.Meaning: 1 core for Xp Home, 2 cores for Xp Pro. Vista-2k8 count sockets. W2k counts one hyperthreaded core as two processors (as opposed to one processor with Xp-2k3), so it may be advantageous to switch HT off.

To answer the 'how well" does w2k pro handle multi core or multi processors, not very well. As mentioned above it will indeed use them but many benchmarks (in the industry as well as my own) have shown that the newer kernel of XP and Windows 2003 make much more efficient use of multi processors (dual core or multi physical processors).

Oct 19, 2012 · There are 2 scripts that can change the HAL from Multi-processor to Uni-processor and vice-versa. Note that changing the HAL driver is only necessary on Windows XP and Windows 2003. The Windows 2008 driver is loaded with both sets of instructions so changing the HAL is unneccessary.
