If your laptop won't boot off an USB flash drive, it for sure won't boot off a external DVD drive either. On remote chance that your laptop has eSATA support, you could boot off a SATA device. However I really doubt that laptop would have eSATA.

If anone knows of a way to convince my laptop that the external is a floppy drive or something similar (or any other suggestions for the setup I've talked about), it would be greatly appreciated.
