May 16, 2008 · The reason that you must attach the fixture to the grid as well as independantly support them, is in the event of an earthquake the light fixture will begin to violently swing and sway and if not attached to the grid can actually cause damage to the grid and cause the grid to come apart. Feb 21, 2011 · What is the electrical code for lighting fixture supports for drop ceilings in Lexington Ky Are seismic clips enough for drop ceiling installations. NEC code 410.36 states that it is but we didn't know if there were any local amendments. Thanks

Photo 2. Here is a pendant fixture I noticed while in a bookstore in San Francisco. I know they have a tendency to experience seismic action on a regular basis, but I don’t think this is the proper method of support for seismic shock absorption. By the way, this wasn’t the only one, there were several fixtures all in the same condition.
