Nov 22, 2019 · It has bidirectional support enabled, but its greyed out and I cant un-tick it. It is disabled on the queue on the server so I removed the printer uninstalled the driver and added the printer again but upon checking the properties the tick is still there. I added the printer on my laptop and bidirectional support is turned off.

Right-click the Canon printer, and then select Printer properties. Select the Ports tab. Confirm that Enable bidirectional support is checked. If you are able to check it, or it is already checked, select Apply-> OK and attempt to print again. If Enable bidirectional support is greyed out, you need to check the printer port setting.

Apr 10, 2010 · I had already tried a complete removal and reinstall. I have also just installed a dummy printer driver ( epsom or some other), using an LPT port, did this twice with different configurations and the bidirectional support option is still always greyed out which makes me think the issue is to do with my system rather that the printer drivers.

I have one of those as well. Their is no bidirectional support on the IP printing protocol (LPR or HPs RAW/port 9000), thusly this information is retrieved from the printer by SNMP. To enable bi-directional support you need to install SNMP on your server, and also, if you are concerned about security, at least change the SNMP comminity names.
