NPIV is supported only for virtual machines with RDM disks. Virtual machines with regular virtual disks continue to use the WWNs of the host’s physical HBAs. NPIV is the ability for a VM to use it's OWN storage separate from the host, so it can be provisioned isolated from the host. I was saying that if you have shared storage, you can simply attach storage to a VM, and not configure the VM, click on NPIV, and attach the storage directly to the VM. That's my point.
