This query does not return rows, use connection.execute query - there is no need for a recordset (which presumably fails due to the driver not supporting one of the lock/cursor options - neither of which are optimal for an insert anyway) – Alex K. Aug 8 '14 at 11:38

So it appears that the connection is opened ... but that a problem exists with creating the Recordset. Can you get a copy of the database and open it in Access? if so, can you run the query directly in Access (i.e. Add a New query, switch to SQL view, and enter your SQL there)?
