Mar 06, 2013 · I am having the same issues, I can install the default vodaphone or a hacked version, but when I install openwrt it wont let me telnet into 192.168.1.1, I did install openwrt on this router a couple times before. I always reflash with the original hg553 firmware before I try to reinstall openwrt.

I'm looking for a VDSL2 modem (or a modem+router which I can use as a modem) which supports OpenWrt/LEDE. Looking at LEDE's table of hardware, there are a few VDSL2 devices which should support OpenWrt/LEDE, but for all of these devices when I look at forum posts it seems like nobody actually managed to get OpenWrt/LEDE running properly.

It is not completely true to say that there are no DSL modems supported by openwrt. Though some are definitely harder to flash with OpenWRT than others, requiring custom JTAG connections and opening up the router. The Buffalo WBMR-HP-G300H will work with OpenWRT and support both annex a and b with ADSL 2+ (though NOT VDSL).

Reading the dedicated OpenWRT page there is no hope for an open firmware supporting ADSL to ever be produced because the chipset is Broadcom and Broadcom does not supply its hardware drivers to Open project. Thus there is no point for me to use this router (I bought it only because I thought it was a good ADSL router).
