Jun 26, 2013 · One interesting note: Oracle 9iR2, 10gR1, 10gR2, and 11gR1 all had a 5 year window from GA to Premier Desupport. Oracle 11gR2 for whatever reason has a 5 year, 4 month window. Hi Tom I'm trying to find out WHY Oracle does not have a direct upgrade path from Oracle 8i ( Rel 8.1.5 & 8.1.6) to Oracle 10g (10.1.0) In all documentation I have read there is no particular reason WHY those 2 relases of 8i are not supported for direct upgrade.

Mar 21, 2006 · I checked the desupport date and in both cases it was 31-July-2010. This just seems plain stupid to me. Why produce a desupport notice for a product, when there is currently no natural upgrade or replacement available. Surely it would be better to wait for the release of Oracle 11(x) Database before issuing this notice.

If you create another database 10g with character set known to Forms 5 there are some changes to work with 10g. But be aware that Forms 5 was made in the times even Oracle 8i was not introduced. Also it is a hard task to reload the data in previous version of Oracle.
