Jun 29, 2006 · Hi, the RBO is still there, even in 10g, but it has been despupported. The hints are still there and it also possible to set the OPTIMIZER_MODE to RULE, but: no support for this. Oracle uses the /*+ RULE */ hint internally still in 10g.

Jan 17, 2012 · The RBO is not being developed anymore (since Oracle7), so it works in 11g exactly the same as in 10g, 9i, 8i and 8. By the way, for that reason it does not support any structures introduced in 8 and up (like partitions, function based indexes, etc.). If you have these structures, Oracle will always use the CBO and not RBO.

If I move the application from RBO to CBO except for the optimizer parameter tuning, can I be assured that all queries will atleast behave with the same performance as that of RBO? 2. In one of my attempts, some queries made the system to hang when moving from RBO to CBO. Pl note all tables, indexes analyzed.

Aug 20, 2008 · Pored over the output and sure enough, the "bad" plan_hash_value was using the FTS and the Note in the output said "rule based optimizer used (consider using cbo)". I couldn't believe my eyes. Why in the world did that one child cursor use the RBO? Any ideas?
