Oct 29, 2015 · It has nothing to do with Trim supported on the SSD or not: OSX can not see that at all. When there is no trim support, it just does not do anything (like on a HDD), if it is supported the SSD controller will use it. Do not use trim. And certainly not on the blacklisted SSDs, see my post above.

Mar 21, 2011 · It boils down to this: if you have a SandForce drive, TRIM support is not as important because the drive does a good job on its own. If you use a different SSD, TRIM support is very beneficial, and we should all hope that OS X delivers full support for TRIM in the near future.

This support continues on in Mac OS X Lion, as well as Mountain Lion, and even OS X Mavericks, but as many have noted, it only seems to work for Apple SSDs. This causes your SSD to slow down over time unless TRIM is enabled. TRIM ensures the physical NAND memory locations containing deleted files are erased before you need to write to them.
