Oct 30, 2007 · What is the partition map/table? System Preferences > Partition > Options > Select appropriate one. I have found that the master boot record prevents repartitoning/multiple partitions. If you plan on usining this with PPC as well as Macintel computers choose the Apple partition map and if you need a boot-able HDD for the Macbook choose GUIDE.

Aug 22, 2009 · The easy and guaranteed way to resize a partition without losing data is simple - make a backup first. If you dont have any backups , obviously the data is of such little value to you it wouldn't matter to you if you lost it.

Mar 05, 2012 · Excellent article!! While removing windows 7 boot camp partition via BCA tool on OS X Mountain Lion, it complained “failed to remove”. However after rebooting MacBook Air noticed that Boot Camp was gone but was not able to merge the partition using Disk Utility.

@EliahKagan: Please have a look at the answer (from Gilles) I linked to. The idea is that it is possible to use fdisk to enlarge the partition, while the OS continues to use the smaller filesystem. Then. after a reboot, after kernel re-reads the updated partition table, we can resize the filesystem because it now lives in a larger partition.
