Overview: Microsoft DFS is a great solution for corporations to synchronize files in remote locations with their own file servers. One of the biggest draw back to using DFS is that it does not support file locks with multiple remote file servers.

Just so you know, your first link is for a proprietary product called peer lock. Your second article is better. The best answer I got from sorting through it is that Windows XP may not create a temp file when the document is opened that would initiate the file lock.

Apr 23, 2015 · We've been using Globalscape WAFS for about 5 years. We have been fairly happy with it and their support is really good. Looked at other options but Globalscape was the most mature and cost effective at the time. I looked into peerlink briefly but did not do a full test drive. We are synching 500+ GB including AutoCAD files.

Jun 22, 2013 · DFS-R supports failover clustering, and as long as peerlock is installed on the cluster nodes, when failover ocures locking continues without a problem. Lastly, peerlock is roughly $1400 per installation and $375 per year maint and support, peerlink (and others) OTOH are FAR more expensive.

WAN acceleration (Riverbed / F5 / Peersync - Peerlock / DFS / other ) ... We sync'd program support files at night between the main and a single branch office. At the time, we only had to support AutoCAD, not ABS. There is no palatible way to open a drawing or application across a WAN.
