May 28, 2019 · the SMTP server supports the "EHLO" (Extended Hello command, circa IETF RFC 1425) - this is a "given"...it's inconceivable in 2019 that an SMTP server would not. the SMTP server presents the keyword "AUTH" in the EHLO response. AUTH indicates that the SMTP server supports Authentication of the email client to the SMTP server.

It's frustrating that stock PHP mail() does not usually allow you to use the SMTP server of your choice, and it does not support SMTP authentication — required by many mail servers today — at all. PEAR Mail for SMTP Authentication and SSL Connection. Fortunately, overcoming PHP's built-in shortcomings is not difficult.

Sep 12, 2006 · Just for fun, I specified mynetworks_style = host, and authentication from my lan (on the same subnet) failed. So, I guess it isn't authenticating at all, but was allowing relaying because the machines are on the same sbunet. And nothing at all is added to the log when I get the message "Mail server does not support secure authentication".

Aug 17, 2018 · FQDN reach the right IP, IP is static and I do not have a failover server. It seems that mail left the building (I see SMTP traffic trough my firewall), but it wont reach the receiver and give the authentication message in 3CX.

Several points: Email server names of the form pod####.outlook.com are the old standard and, while they still work for the time being, have been superseded by the generic smtp.office365.com.Just google "office365 smtp settings" and you'll see good documentation on this. You'll need to specify port 587 per the documentation you'll find from item 1. just as S. Varun states.
