Oct 01, 2019 · bought a 7ht mag off ebay and noticed it didnt have a pinion support sleeve fitted, ive since fitted one and took it out for a session and found that it has a bit of a wobble through the spool/handle under load but seems smooth when i turn it with no lead or rig attached???

Nov 11, 2010 · Did they fix the pinion support, where with all previous generations, including the 7HT mag, you could get excessive wear caused by the float in the top of the drive shaft and uneven meshing of the gears....I installed a pinion support sleeve on my 7HT mag.....again, this is more important for those with fishing in mind.....Sure would like to know if they addressed it??

The shaft of the original 7HT spool went though the pinion gear, which if contaminated with oil or grease could and would retard spool rotation. To get around this, Daiwa removed the part of the shaft that ran through the pinion gear and placed the bearing on the end of the reduced shaft held in place with a pin.
