Planarian Body-Wall Muscle: Regeneration and Function ...

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4744845/
Freshwater planarians have a complex body-wall musculature that functions mainly as a skeletal support and during locomotion. In addition, the digestive system consists of a highly muscular tubular organ, the pharynx, and a highly ramified gut surrounded by enteric musculature that mediates peristaltic movements during food intake and digestion.Cited by: 24

Planarian body-wall muscle shows some ambiguous features common to both skeletal and smooth muscle cells.

Planarian Regeneration by Lora Bueker - BIOLOGY JUNCTION

Apr 21, 2017 · When a brown planarian’s body part is lost or damaged, the planarian will regenerate a new body part to replace the lost one. Planarian Background The brown planarian is the Dugesia tigrina. It is in the class Turbellaria, which is in the phylum Platyhelminthes. The freshwater Tubellarians are found in almost all aquatic habitats. Planarians hide under rocks, leaves, and debris to avoid light.

Planarian - an overview ScienceDirect Topics

    https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/biochemistry-genetics-and-molecular-biology/planarian
Planarians are free-living invertebrates that employ motile cilia for locomotion. Specifically, cilia that populate the ventral epithelium of the planarian body are highly conserved, with a 9 + 2 axoneme and a full complement of inner and outer arm dynein motors. The abundance of cilia on the planarian body, their unique accessibility, and high degree of conservation make this organism an attractive experimental …

Apr 21, 2017 · Flatworm Characteristics –Flat bodies (gases move by diffusion) –bilateral symmetry –gastrovascular cavity –some flatworms are parasitic, some are freeliving –they have anterior and posterior heads and exhibit cephalization Types of Flatworms (planarian, tapeworm, fluke) Planarian (also known as Dugesia)–lives in freshwater –mostly a scavenger, also feeds on protists …

Planarian regeneration involves distinct stem cell ...

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2950745/
Aug 15, 2010 · Planarian regeneration requires adult stem cells called neoblasts and amputation triggers two peaks in neoblast mitoses early in regeneration. We demonstrate that the first mitotic peak is a body-wide response to any injury and that a second, local, neoblast response is induced only when injury results in missing tissue.Cited by: 275

What is a flatworm's (Platyhelminthes) body support ...

    https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091115160233AA1zsLV
Nov 15, 2009 · Best Answer: Jelly like body's inner layer and 2 outer layers. Platyhelminthes have no internal body cavity, this gives them body support. They are essentially fluid-filled sacs hypertonic to their environment. They do have mechanisms for locomotion but nothing to write home about for support.
