Plex supports DTS just fine if your other equipment does. But you need DTS decoding on your receiver (or TV if you're using ARC) and your Plex client has to support passthrough. Check the specs for each link in your audio chain to see if it's DTS-capable. Also check the info display on the server to see what kind of audio it's passing the client.

Dude! You’re a savior! This should be advertised on all the fora that (attempt to) address the issue of DTS sound on Apple TV using Synology NAS and Emby or DS Video (can’t use Plex anymore as i have a DS218Play with no support for Plex). Why doesn’t Synology build this into their system is beyond me.

Jul 25, 2016 · Yes it does, and that’s precisely how I have it connected now via a Toslink cable. However, because 2011 model year LG TVs don’t support DTS, the Plex Media Server apparently realizes that and is transcoding the DTS audio. At least that’s what I’m guessing. That’s why I’m thinking about an HDMI audio splitter like this one:

I have a great Plex library. I also have a 7.1 surround setup that I love. I have quite a few 7.1 DTS-HD movies as well. I currently stream most of my Plex movies using my Xbox One, but it doesn't support DTS-HD so Plex has to Transcode it to AAC which I don't really want.

The Xbox One S/X Plex App is currently capable of playing 2160p (UHD/"4k") H.265/HEVC files but only with AAC or AC3 sound and no subtitles. The Dolby Atmos "Passthrough mode" which includes DTS/DTS-HD etc. has been opened up for third party developers since the beginning of this year.The only Third-Party app I know so far that supports it is Netflix which pushed an update in June.
