I agree it's very doubtful. I think they want you locked into their service. That said, Plex seems like an alternative to slingbox so they may have to reevaluate when they see people buying a tuner and setting up plex instead of using their boxes.

Stability is what is keeping Slingbox viewing on life support. Roku adds requirements, changes requirements, and makes exclusions to requirements, and if a channel partner (or class of partners) mattered enough to them, they would either make exclusions (which they have done, see their requirements specs) or negotiate such changes to allow service to continue.
