Aug 30, 2006 · Why aren't these phones smart enough to pick up a voice vlan from teh Cisco device? Is there a way to remedy this? CDP is a security risk anyway, and if I want to turn it off, now I can't because the Polycom phones rely upon it. Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.

Polycom phones send only 3-4 CDP messages hoping that the connected device is CDP capable. If it doesn't receive CDP messages, it assumes that the connected device is not CDP capable and stops sending CDP messages. This times out the Polycom phones from lldp neighbor table and soon they lose the connectivity to the voice vlan. 6.

If set to 1, the phone software will unconditionally send a CDP packet (to the authenticator switch port) to indicate a host has been connected or disconnected to its secondary (PC) port.
