May 21, 2004 · Compiling Promise RAID support in the Kernel Currently I have 2 80GB drives connected to my Promise Raid Tx2000 in a stripe array. When I boot into Linux it sees each drive individually on the controller instead of an array.

Using the on-board DIMM as cache, and issuing each RAID transaction once (instead of once for each disk), will result in increased performance, but the driver doesn't do that yet. SX4 hardware is very "RAID friendly", particularly RAID1/5. Users may wish to use the Promise driver to fully utilize the hardware.

Apr 11, 2008 · I have an MSI K9A2 Platinum motherboard which comes with an Promise T3 FastTrack PDC42819 RAID controller that for the life of me I can't get Linux to detect. I have two 500GB hdds that are detected during boot, just not seen by Linux. Does anyone know the correct driver to use, or if that particular controller is supported at this time?

Sep 08, 2007 · so the RAID card i got is a 'fakeraid' card and requires dmraid for Linux/Ubuntu to see it as one drive instead of the two drives that make up the set. Are Adaptec, Promise and HighPoint RAID cards 'true' RAID cards, will they make the set pop up as one drive without needing dmraid? I just wanna make this raid set as OS-independent as possible.

Dec 24, 2017 · Hello, I've recently upgraded my AMD desktop with 4 identical drives, so I wanted to create a RAID. Sadly, ahci.ko does not seem to acknowledge any RAID sets and lists all of the drives on their own. dmraid told me that there's Promise FastTrack metadata on the drives, which strongly suggests that SB950's RAID controller is from Promise, but just under the hood.

Dec 24, 2018 · The drivers for it are included in Linux kernel sources in upstream. It's hard to get there with Linus' harsh criticism, but it's not impossible. Hewlett Packard actually managed to do this with their software RAID controllers in the Smart Array product line. Having this kind of support is better than no or binary-only support.
