Aug 04, 2009 · Assuming that your gampads are well installed within your OS, you've just to run ePSXe, then go to Config/GamePad/Port1 then map your gamepad buttons with the buttons of the illustrated-controller (click a rectangle then push a button on your gamepad to map it).

When I try, well, for exemple, I click on the case for the Circle button, then I press on the circle button on the controller, but when I release the button, the case turn blank, like if no button were mapped. It does that to every single button I try to map

Never had a problem configuring an Xbox 360 controller but when using an Xbox One controller (wired) the Right Trigger button is recognized as being pressed nonstop. I already downloaded the latester version of ePSXe and reinstalled the controller drivers, restarted computer, etc.
