Apr 07, 2018 · I always carried some PVC pipe with me to slide under the slide awning whenever I felt we were going to have rain. 1 1/2” pipe to whatever length you want and end pieces that Had three openings, one for the pipe and two for the legs I cut about 6” .also an end cap to form a smooth contact on the leg end.. this forms a support to hold up the awning in case you get a lot of water.

Use a PVC pipe that the frame pipe will fit into. The outer pipe has one hole, and the inner pipe (attached to the awning) has multiple holes. Use a d-pin or something fancier to set the height. Drill one hole about an inch down from the top of the larger pipe.

The amount of pipe depends on the width of your window. Mine window was about 5' wide, so a 6' wide frame was selected. A main reason 6' was chosen -- I'll say this now -- is that the awning material (canvas drop cloth) is available in a 6' width. I would not make the awning much bigger than this without more frame support structures.
