Qt; QTBUG-7; Multicast support for its new QUdpSocket class in Qt4. Log In. Export
https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-8652
Please consider adding Multicast support for the QUdpSocket class. Most of the desired functionality comes from additional ::setsockopt calls for items such as: setting multicast loopback (IP_MULTICAST_LOOP) setting multicast TTL (IP_MULTICAST_TTL) setting the multicast interface (IP_MULTICAST_IF) joining a multicast group (IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP ...

Oct 25, 2013 · My Qt application uses multicast QUdpSocket and need half-duplex operation (it simulates radio transfer between simplex radiostations). It means that one application instance must not receive datagrams it sends. But also it must support working multiple instances on same machine (user explicitly selects loopback interface).

It is designed to easily interface with HTTP for integration with the Web, while meeting specialized requirements such as multicast support, very low overhead, and simplicity for constrained environments. The Qt CoAP module implements the client side of CoAP defined by RFC 7252. Generally, CoAP is designed to use datagram-oriented transport such as UDP, so the current implementation of …

Until Qt provides native, cross-platform multicast support, you will have to manage some platform specific code. For example, if you are targeting Windows, I extended the QUdpSocket class into my own MulticastSocket class. Then I provided the APIs to join and leave multicast groups.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/19218994/qt-joinmulticastgroup-for-all-interface
I was recently dealing with multicast and Qt, and this problem seems to still exist with Qt 5.6 and Win7. The problem is that joinMulticastGroup() uses the first address of the interface without checking if it's IPV4 or IPV6 (even if you use AnyIpv4 in bind). This issue is not fixed in the official Qt release, but the proposed patch works for me:

I'm looking for a Wi-Fi router that explicitly supports 802.11 multicast for a UDP multicast setup. Right now I have a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk. Using 3rd part firmware from myopenwireless.com I am able to enable multicast for ethernet ports and WiFi, but the WiFi multicast experiences latency spikes.
