ROLLER SUPPORTS Roller supports are free to rotate and translate along the surface upon which the roller rests. The surface can be horizontal, vertical, or sloped at any angle. The resulting reaction force is always a single force that is perpendicular to, and away from, the surface.

Statics eBook: 2-D and 3-D Supports

The roller support is similar to a pin support but mounted on wheels. It cannot exert a couple about any axis, nor can it exert a force parallel to the surface on which the roller support rests. It can, however, exert a force perpendicular to the surface on which it rests. The roller permits rotation about any axis.

May 06, 2015 · A pin support can resist both horizontal & vertical force but not a moment. It only allows a member to rotate but not to translate in any direction. Whereas a roller support is free to rotate &...Author: Spoon Feed Me

How to Calculate Reactions at Supports? SkyCiv Cloud ...

    https://skyciv.com/docs/tutorials/beam-tutorials/how-to-calculate-reactions-at-supports/
It involves calculating the reaction forces at the supports (supports A and B in the below example) due to the forces acting on the beam. You will need to know this to progress through and calculate bending moment diagrams (BMDs) and shear force diagrams (SFDs); an important part of your statics and structural college/university courses.
