DATA=SAS-data-set specifies the SAS data set to be read by PROC GAM. The default value is the most recently created data set. DESCENDING DESC . reverses the sorting order of the classification variable (specified in the CLASS statement). If both the DESCENDING and ORDER= options are specified, PROC GAM orders the categories according to the ORDER= option and then reverses that order.

The syntax of the GAM procedure is similar to that of other regression procedures in the SAS System. The PROC GAM and MODEL statements are required. The CLASS statement, if specified, must precede the MODEL statement. The CLASS and SCORE statements can appear multiple times; all other statements must appear only once. ...

If only smoothing effects are present, PROC GAM fits a nonparametric additive model. If both types of effect are present, PROC GAM fits a semiparametric model by using the parametric effects as the linear part of the model. Table 36.1 shows how to specify various models for a dependent variable y and independent variables x, x1, and x2.

you can use PROC GAM to model not only Gaussian data, but also data from binary, Poisson, and other non-Gaussian distributions. Introduction The GAM procedure is the most versatile of sev-eral new procedures for nonparametric regression in SAS software. The methodology behind the GAM procedure has greater flexibility than traditional para-

This section describes the use of ODS for creating statistical graphs with the GAM procedure. To request these graphs you must specify the ODS GRAPHICS statement in addition to the options indicated in Table 36.4.For more information about the ODS GRAPHICS statement, see Chapter 21, Statistical Graphics Using ODS. When ODS Graphics is in effect, the GAM procedure by default …

Dear friends, I am using Proc GAM on a panel dataset (with 3,00,000 obs) for exploratory data analysis. I wanted to understand what is effect of an independent variable on the dependent variable. After running the Proc GAM code, I got a graphical output with the independent variable on x-axis and t...

If JOB is not contnuous (it's a character variable), you can't fit a spline through it. That is a meaningless idea.--

No. IMHO, you should switch from the old PROC GAM to the newer PROC GAMPL. Although GAMPL does not support a SCORE statement, you can score a GAMPL model is to use the "missing value trick." A discussion and example are available in the third section of the article "How to create a sliced fit plot in SAS."
