Jul 21, 2010 · If I put back SATA native mode I see Win7 as a subset of GRUB which will not load as described above. Win7 is on the 1st ATA drive with XP and Ubuntu on the 3rd drive in separate partitions. I expected Win7 to better support Native SATA mode and was surprised that changing the BIOS back to Legacy allowed Win7 to install.

Aug 25, 2015 · AHCI vs regular Native IDE I feel that setting your SATA harddisks to AHCI mode can be mandatory when you have a SSD drive. Doing some benchmarks on my Intel i7 shows that my SSD it's 50% slower running under IDE.

And also, I cannot install the intel matrix storage manager without enabling the Sata native support, and so how important is the intel matric manager and do I really need to install it?

Yes, it’s convenient that you can connect a drive without an external adapter, but the device may be using a built-in SATA-IDE adapter or its software may not be providing native support for this interface.
