Oct 12, 2018 · With the T3400, if I enable the all the SATA drive ports in the BIOS, I am able to hot plug/swap SATA drives to the unused ports while the computer is running. I can plug in a drive while the system is running, and the drive will be recognized by Ubuntu. I can unmount and plug in another drive, and that drive is recognized as well.

Nov 17, 2011 · SATA allows hot disconnection. No hotplug for fixed disks (hotplug disabled). This is only necessary if you want to disconnect the drive while the system is running, except the disk that is working. Concerning the SATA Marvel Port, I don't know the reponse.

Feb 11, 2015 · If the sata cable has a "hot plug" connector (slightly shorter connections on some of the pins) then the drive should perform a clean shut down. (clear the cache by writing the data to the drive, then powering down) The PC should report to the OS that a drive has been removed.

Jun 23, 2014 · As stated above, you do need AHCI. I have a recent Gigabyte Z87 Desktop board and the BIOS has settings for each SATA port -- separate from the SATA controller mode (AHCI, etc.). Hot Plug is one of the settings and it is turned off by default. The SATA settings are under a tab that falls under the Peripherals Section.
