SBS I am ordering a Dell Power Edge 2900 serverwith two physical quad-core CPUs (a total of 8 cores). I will be installing SBS 2003 (not R2) on it. On Microsoft's website it says that SBS 2003 supports two physical CPUs and four virtual processors.

Aug 17, 2007 · SBS 2003 does not have a limit on logical processors. For example if you have 2 quad-core processors (without hyper threading) you will see 8 logical processors inside Windows. SBS will utilize all of your logical processors. Here are some screen shots from a recent test we performed with two quad-core processors:

Feb 15, 2008 · Installing SBS 2003 R2 on a system with Quad-Core processor and 4 GB RAM After checking out the specification of SBS 2003 I found that it supports only a Dual Core CPU, and around 4GB RAM. Above that it will not work.

I hope Darren doesn’t mind me stealing his entire REALLY good blog post about how he got stuck installing Windows 2003 sp2 and ISA on a quad core CPU server and how he needed to get up to ISA 2004 sp2 or sp3 to fix this .
