I am trying to beat the game with my cousing by playing the coop mode but we realized that only one character (the first player) can use the upgrades. For the other one, nor weapons or health etc. can be improved. The same upgrade screen comes up when we use different controllers to open the upgrade menu. Am I doing something wrong or is this how the game was designed?

Loving the game, but I'm a bit lost in finding all the secrets that unlock the bonus options (cheats), I've found 18/20, but still looking for the rest. There was mention of a guide, but all the links are dead. Is there any other place I can look up on for how to find those two last ones to unlock the one remaining option?
