Sep 10, 2012 · Topic: Skeinforge support without raft? I am attempting to print some models that require support however; I do not want the raft. I select the Activate Raft option in Skeinforge and Support Cross Hatch but will not print the support unless I also choose add Raft, Elevate Nozzle, Orbit. Am I missing somehting or do I have to have Raft with Support?

Because there are so many things going on in Raft besides the details of the raft itself, it's a good idea to keep it activated. If you want to turn off the raft, you can do that by turning off the next option: in Skeinforge 50 it's called Add Raft, Elevate Nozzle, Orbit, but the name is slightly different in other versions of Skeinforge.

Skeinforge has a support material option that many people don't use, but it actually works quite well if used correctly. It isn't perfect, but it can make a big difference in some prints. At the bottom of the "Raft" tab, there are a few support options. "Support Cross Hatch" - If checked prints support layers in an alternating cross-hatch pattern.

Want to have different settings for the support material vs. the supported material? Check! Want to create some raft material? Go for it!!! Unfortunately you need a PhD in Skeinforge to figure out how one setting will affect all of the others. I got mine so messed up that I have no idea how to get it back to default and can't print anymore.
