Smartmontools supports CSMI for SATA (but not for SAS) devices. Some LSI drivers for Windows reportedly support CSMI pass-through, see ticket #276.. I'm not aware of any other ATA/SCSI pass-through functionality in the Windows drivers for LSI RAID controllers.

Hello, It has been a little while since I posted my question on the smartmontools support forum. Thanks for the primary answer I got from Robert S. To my own disgrace, I must now admit that I have been wrong by saying that the device about which I got this health warning did not exist on my system. It DOES exist!!

[smartmontools-support] Couldn't access LSI RAID controller drive in Windows 2012 ... There is not LSI MegaRAID specific support in the Windows version of smartmontools. This could not be added without documentation of the LSI specific ATA/SCSI pass-through I/O-control (which may not exist at all).
