Aug 13, 2013 · Please add 24bit / flac support in Sonos A workaround is to play from a PC (Windows 10 built-in music player), then select 'play on device', then select the Sonos player from the PC. So, since Sonos won't accept 24-bit streams, your Win10 media server must be down-converting the file.

This depends on downsampling the files, but more importantly hinges on the unpublished capability of Sonos to support 48 kHz / 16 bit / 1536 kbps, higher than the officially stated 1411 kbps. So why does this matter?

Jul 18, 2018 · On Sonos iOS devices are only able to stream AAC or MP3 files from their storage, and only as long as they are DRM free. The Sonos system can play AIFF files but only from local music shares (on a computer or NAS drive), or from Android mobile controllers. You can read more here.

Nov 09, 2017 · According to Sonos, AIFF has limited metadata support because Sonos "cannot embed album art and tag album information in a traditional method." However, I find that there seems to be no disruption of such information whatsoever through the Sonos interface with my AIFF files, only the incapacity to play the music.
