Mar 25, 2015 · There have been a few threads of people trying to run Windows 10 as a Hyper-V VM in windows 7 or 8 and complaining about sound, usb, webcam etc. I only have Windows 10 hosts so can't really confirm it works on old hosts but enhanced session mode (with sound, usb pass-through, iSight) works for me running 10 on a 10 host.

Jan 27, 2020 · I'm getting no sound from my Win10 install (no sound device installed). I set this up in Windows 8.1 Hyper V with what I thought was 'enhanced session mode' enabled. It is showing grayed out in the Hyper V window of the machine. I'm not sure if this is a Hyper V issue or a Win10 issue. Or me! Dan Reynolds

Feb 05, 2018 · Probably because VMWare workstation player was built that way. Hyper-V was originally written for the Server OS and did not support sound (or USB devices) and still does not. If you don't like the way Hyper-V works, don't use it. There are plenty of options. Personally I would not use Hyper-V to run a Ubuntu guest in the first place.

Lack of audio support in Hyper-V for Linux is one of several trade offs of using Linux guests on Hyper-V hosts. I have had luck using VirtualBox as the Hypervisor which allows audio, but you must uninstall/deactivate the Hyper-V feature before running/installing VirtualBox as Hyper-V locks the virtualization for Hyper-V's usage.
