What I would suggest in that case is going to "Settings" in Big Picture Mode, clicking "Controller Settings" and removing the tick in the box labelled "Generic Gamepad Configuration Support". Now unplug the controller. Next put the tick back in the "Generic Gamepad Configuration Support" box. Finally, plug in the new controller.

Feb 15, 2013 · Steam runs great, even in Big Picture mode. And the one game I have is running great too. The only problem I have is that when in Big Picture - Settings it says "No Controller Detected". I have /dev/input/js0 I can run jscal and all my buttons and dpad/sticks work. I even use this gamepad with a couple NES emulators. So I know its working.

Gamepad-only input styles will only work with gamepad supported games. If you're playing a game that doesn't have gamepad support, like DOTA 2, you won't be able to use gamepad-only input styles, 'Joystick Move' and 'Joystick Camera', to move or look around.
