I was looking for mkv players a few days ago. emmm I think these players are worth trying out. VLC Media Player, Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPC-HC), KMPlayer, and Free Video Converter Factory. The last one is mainly used as a video converter, but since the mkv codec itself is installed, there is no problem in playing mkv videos.

I installed the K-Lite Codec pack and after that it works like a charm, to play .mkv-files in Nvidias player that is. However, I never get the video to be displayed fullscreen, it's always in a small window with a large black area covering the rest of the monitor.

With the same PowerDVD, I tried to play the Avatar 3D trailer downloaded from YouTube (MP4 format), but it now shows it the two frames. PowerDVD 10 is advertised to support 3D and 3D Vision. Why can’t I play these videos? NVidia Stereoscopic player plays the Avatar trailer fine, but it doesn’t support MKV.

Apr 01, 2013 · I've added support for the Oculus Rift in Stereoscopic Player version 2.0.5. The current implementation allows to watch 2D and 3D images and videos on the Rift. Headtracking is not supported yet, I'll add it later when I have access to a Rift for testing.
