Included in this is that if it is a port of a console-game, the 360-controller is supposed to be compatible with it. See, Stranglehold is originally a console-game designed and intended by the original developers to be played with a controller. (and I had more fun playing it with a controller than with the mouse+keyboard-combination by the way.

Akhem, Stranglehold is NOT "Games for Windows Live" game but "Games for Windows" one, which only means that it complies with some standards set by Microsoft something something and doesn't always mean that it uses GFWL. Oh and by the way, the game does not support Xbox 360 controller if it's important for you.

You just 'open' a new profile, follow the instructions to add all the controller buttons, then go to your fresh profile and use the right stick for your mouse (there is an option to use the stick as mouse, you domt need to like click up, down, left, etc), then use like left bumper as left click on mouse, right bumper as right click on mouse …
