Symantec antivirus software is not compatible with Windows 8. I am on Windows 7, plan to upgrade to windows 8. The upgrade manager says Symantec Endpoint Protection (antivirus) software is not compatible with windows 8. That antivirus software is the one offered by my university (many universities actually) for free to students.
