Dude! You’re a savior! This should be advertised on all the fora that (attempt to) address the issue of DTS sound on Apple TV using Synology NAS and Emby or DS Video (can’t use Plex anymore as i have a DS218Play with no support for Plex). Why doesn’t Synology build this into their system is beyond me.

Synology is fantastic thing, but sometimes if you add video it will have DTS audio track and DS Video/Synology can not play it. Because licence problem Synology do not have DTS support from factory but there is way how to install DTS codec anyway.

Aug 26, 2019 · While I can have DS Video on iOS pass the MKV files along to VLC for playback, I would like things to work better on Apple TV or on web browsers, where this is not an option (VLC on Apple TV is not capable of being "handed off to" from other apps as on iOS.) FFMPEG used to solve this, but the current version seems to get hung up on DTS audio.

Synology dropped licensing and therefore compatibility for DTS playback in DS Video.I played with downgrading versions of ffmpeg, various community releases, and finally gave up on the fight there. I now remux all of my DTS/Surround audio to add a default AC3 or AAC audio channel. Doesn't add much size and still preserves original video/audio.
