Syslinux-efi is enabled by default for hdd images (instead of grub-efi, which would cause the boot to fail). When both syslinux and syslinux-efi are enabled, they share the same config files (in /boot or /syslinux). When only syslinux-efi is enabled, config files are still stored in the same place. Syslinux-efi only supports hdd images.

UEFI support seems to have been added in version 6 of SYSLINUX, while Slackware comes with version 4, which means it can not be set up during Slackware installation, unless one prepares SYSLINUX files on another machine.

A variety of machines will happily boot a custom bzImage via PXE in legacy mode using syslinux. In UEFI mode, one of these machines and a newer UEFI only board get assigned an IP address, TFTP syslinx.efi from the server and then freeze.

The "linux" syslinux installer (syslinux-nomtools) now has a command-line syntax closer to the extlinux installer. The mtools, dos and win32 installers will get this new syntax eventually, but it is not implemented yet. chain.c32: support booting GPT partitions by index, GUID, label. chain.c32: support booting the Syslinux partition with "fs".
