Nov 21, 2007 · An update to grub 2.0 left my system unbootable. So I booted with a Live CD, but I couldn't mount my root partition, which is in LVM. Then I found your page, installed lvm2 as you described, and ran all the lvm commands pvscan, vgscan, etc, and it all worked perfectly - I can mount and browse the partition now. Next task: repair the GRUB damage

But because the /dev/server1/root volume is the system partition of our machine, we must use a rescue system or Live-CD to restore the backup.
