What CPU is in your T60 currently? If upgrading from a low-end CPU an upgrade to a T7xxx would be worth it, but lets say you want to upgrade from a T7200 to a T7600 I would advice you to avoid it and save the trouble, as the performance gain would be minimal.

Either you have a bad CPU, BIOS needs to be updated to recognize the "newer" Core 2 CPU, bad install, or something got damaged during the install. Put the old CPU back in. If it works as before then update the BIOS to the latest one available. Re-install the T7200 and it should work. If not then the T7200 ...
