This message means, that instrument may be used only for analysis of iOS application, not OS X one. There is no way to run it to analyze OS X app. Edit: Just checked, and Core Animation instrument doesn't work with iOS Simulator too. You should use real device to able to analyze iOS application.

Feb 11, 2012 · I'd like to do it on the device itself but if only the simulator is possible, either is fine. I just can't figure out how to specify the IPA as the target. I did rename it to a .zip and uncompress the Payload folder and point to that app in instruments and it just tells it it fails to load the app.

Dec 05, 2017 · I had a similar problem because the app store version was missing iOS 10.1 support in Xcode 8 and they haven’t rolled an update yet. This caused the “Xcode: Could not locate device support files” problem.

Existing projects configured to use LLVM-GCC and GDB will be reconfigured to use the LLVM compiler and LLDB debugger when opened by Xcode 5. Please file a bug using bugreporter.apple.com for any issues that prevent you from moving to Xcode 5 for this reason.
