Thunderbird should support smart widgets for voting, time scheduling. These could be built around micro-formats and for teams using Thunderbird only everything would work without problems (all over email). If someone uses another client, some manual actions would still be required.

Mar 18, 2019 · The maildir support, also called maildir-lite in Thunderbird, is very similar to, but not meant to be 100% compatible with, the maildir spec. It was hoped that maildir would be enabled by default in Thunderbird 24.0 (Fall 2013) but it is still too buggy for normal use.

As for maildir, there were a number of serious issues in maildir in Thunderbird 31 that should be resolved in Thunderbird 38, including this beta. I personally use all maildir on my Thunderbird profile, but that is dogfooding. There has not been extensive testing of this, so if is good to be cautious.
