Oct 04, 2013 · What you need to remember is that Google is giving the Unity webplayer an exemption for the next 16 months or so. After this, the existing webplayer will stop working in Chrome. Every single game out there, included the demos on our website will not work. That's a big enough problem to get lots of attention from Unity.

Unity's Web Player runs off the Netscape plugin API (NPAPI). Chrome didn't completely nix support for the Web Player and NPAPI, they just disabled support by default. This is because NPAPI is fairly old, and as such, it has led to lots of errors when using Chrome. So the folks at Chrome decided to disable the support to make the browser run "better."

Apr 16, 2015 · Chrome version 42 was just released and by default it disables support for the Unity Web Player, effectively killing it. Chrome has a large market share overall, ranging from 25-50% depending on what source you're checking. On my own site, according to Google Analytics, nearly 70% of the users use Chrome. It's not all lost, however.

Apr 10, 2016 · Someone from Unity Technologies posted stating "We won't be able to do anything about the plugin itself though since Edge doesn't support plugins. You can keep running Firefox to play your Unity Plugin content on Windows 10." If I want to continue, I'll have to go back to Firefox or Chrome.

Oct 14, 2019 · Unity WebGL for mobiles isn't supported because it doesn't run well enough on mobiles. WebGL doesn't run well enough because Unity doesn't support S3TC and ETC2 compression in WebGL which leads to too much texture memory use for WebGL mobile, which isn't a problem since Unity WebGL isn't suppoted on mobiles, because it doesn't run well enough on mobiles.
