I installed build-essentials, vbox guest additions and vbox extension , enabled 3D acceleration but still unity_support_test results as "No" for not software rendered and Ubuntu 3d support just as below..

So are you saying this is working for you and not for me? I don't have a problem with Ubuntu 12.04 or Fedora 17 and the biggest change I could find was that they are now using a native software rendering approach so I naturally assumed that would be the reason.

Nov 30, 2016 · No, on both counts. Unity does not (and never has had) support for direct software rendering. OpenGL itself does not have a software mode, it is just an API. However some people in the past have implemented software renderers that act sort of like virtual GPUs.
