IBM’s end of service announcement. On the 30th September 2013, IBM will withdraw software support of the IBM i V5R4 operating system. V5R4 has been available since 2006, and with its End of Service scheduled for 2013, it will have been supported longer than any prior release.

Oct 10, 2013 · IBM’s announcement letter 912-011, IBM stated that from 1 st October 2013 support services for v5r4 and related licenced programs would no longer be available. That said IBM have provided Service Extensions for v5r4 until 30 th October 2016.

May 06, 2013 · While regular Software Maintenance (SWMA) support for V5R4 expires on September 30 this year, IBM has, as promised, announced an extended SWMA support offering for V5R4 for customers who cannot, for whatever reason, get onto a newer IBM i 6.1 or 7.1 release by the end of September.

For the POWER7 iron, the end of support being two years out gives those customers the shot in the arm to upgrade to 7.2 or 7.3 before the end of support for 7.1 happens on April 30, 2018. Apr 11, 2017 · Steve Will, chief architect for the IBM i operating system, announced in a tweet today that the end of support, EOS, for release 7.1 will be on April 30, 2018. IBM i was released on April 23, 2010, and has been the release where so many major improvements to the operating system started.
