If you’ve experienced a crime, you might be asked to go to court to give evidence. Attending court can be a daunting experience for anyone. There are lots of different roles in the court process and as a witness you will be asked questions about what you saw.

The Court Support Program provides support for children and young people who are required to attend court as victims or witnesses to crime. Our court companions are trained and experienced to work with victims and witnesses of all ages. They help to prepare the child/young person for the court process by providing information to the child/young person as well as their caregivers.

A victim who is a witness may be required to give evidence under oath or affirmation, and may be cross examined usually by the defence lawyer.
