To overcome this problem, you need to install the VirtualBox's experimental 3D support. However, you must first enable the 2D and 3D accelerations in your VM configuration. Important : since VirtualBox 6.0, you must enable 2D and 3D acceleration in your virtual machine configuration BEFORE installing its support (via the option available when installing VirtualBox guest additions) in your virtual machine.

Enabling all graphics support and D3D does nothing to help, and the windows troubleshooter continues to say it's likely because the video driver is not WDDM compliant. This severely limits the use of virtualbox with applications, not just in seeing Aero mode.

Hi, Starting with VirtualBox 4.3.14 (w/ corresponding guest additions) I've remarked that Aero desktop stopped working for Windows Vista guests (while it works on the same host for Windows 7 guests). So we get the old, ugly window style in Vista guests. Host : AMD Phenom 9850 8 GB RAM NVidia GeForce 660 Ti with nvidia-331 driver and 2 GB VRAM Kubuntu 14.04.1 LTS 64 bits

RDP uses a different video output, which with the newer RDP clients (6+, 7 for sure) support native Aero. As said above, RDP Aero is not rendered on the machine serving RDP. Read the Forum Posting Guide before opening a topic. VirtualBox FAQ : Check this before asking questions.

By default, VirtualBox will dedicate 1 GB of RAM for a 32-bit Windows 10 machine, and 2 GB for its 64-bit version. In my case, it is a 64-bit instance.
