During the research for our new TFS 2010 book, I discovered the actual end of mainstream support for Visual SourceSafe 2005 is at the end of July 2012.I wrote the "Migrating to Team Foundation Server 2010" chapter which includes migrating from VSS. Once installed, SourceSafe 2005 is compatible with all Orcas releases. The update only needs to be installed once. The update can be installed over any existing SourceSafe 2005 hotfixes.
